DTM-351 3-AXIS TESLAMETER DATA LOGGING

Rev 0.0	2024-07-17	RJW	Initial write
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
The data logging is controlled via the 'DATALOG' tab of the LabVIEW screen.

PREPARING THE LOG

Before attempting to do any logging, it is vital to set up a directory/folder
for the logs.

This is always C:\G3T\DTM351\Logs

If this directory has not been established, the log file creation process will
fail, and an error will be displayed.
Note that the establishment of this directory is a one-time operation:
once this has been done, it does not need to be done again.

When the 'Number of Samples' and 'Sample Rate' are being adjusted, the 'Time
Remaining' indicator will show the calculated run time of the log.

STARTING THE LOG

The log is initiated via the 'Log Start' button.
If the date and time in the Delayed Start boxes has already elapsed, the data
logging will start immediately on the press of the button.
Otherwise, the 'Primed' LED will illuminate, showing that a data logging session
has been scheduled, but is not yet active.

A primed session will start automatically at the scheduled time.

When logging is active, the 'LOGGING' LED is illuminated.

STOPPING THE LOG

The log can be stopped at any time by pressing the 'Log Stop' button.
Otherwise, the log will end automatically when the pre-programmed number of
Field readings has been logged.

If a scheduled log has not been started and is in the Primed condition, pressing
the 'Log Stop' button will cancel the schedule.
The 'Primed' LED will go out.

Note that stopping the log resets the 'Samples to Go' counter to its initial
value. Temporarily interrupting then resuming a log is not possible.

LOG FILE FORMAT

The log file is in tab-separated format and can be imported into most
spreadsheets.

Normally, the 3 field readings and the calculated vector sum are logged,
prefixed by the date and time.

Every 10 seconds, a special record is created, giving a date+time stamp followed
by:
	the 3 temperatures;
	the 3 range settings;
	the 3 filter settings.

This special record is preceded by a header line listing the parameters below,
and is followed by a header line listing the Field record parameters.

The above is a precise import of a portion of a log file.
This is tab separated: when it is imported into a spreadsheet, the columns
line up and make sense.

The first record is a temperature record.
This contains:-
	date, time,
X temperature and unit, Y temperature and unit, Z temperature and unit,
	X range, Y range, Z range,
	X filter status, Y filter, Z filter.

This log was created using a system in which the X axis was the only one which
was active. No-response fields are filled in with '?'
Because the inactive chnnels are no-response, the sample rate is limited by the
timeout setting of 100 ms.

The rest of the log is comprised of field readings.
Each one contains:-
	Date, time,
X field and unit, Y field and unit, Z field and unit,
	Vector sum.

The vector sum is assumed to have the same units as the X field.

A temperature record is inserted every 10 seconds, and will record changes
made either via the physical panels or via the LabVIEW panel.
